Wood engraving is a complex, but beautiful process. When you receive your wooden product that has been engraved, you may notice that the darkness of the layer below is not consistent. Well, we are here to answer all of your questions about wood engraving.
As it is known, wood is a natural product and therefore acts differently when engraved. But what really is an engraving? Engraving is when a focused high-power laser is used to burn an image onto an item of your choice. Since we cannot open up the wood layer by layer, we do not know how the layer below will react to the laser. Sometimes you will get a darker burn, and sometimes you will get a lighter burn. As the wood grain changes, so do the effects of the laser on said grain. Let’s take the image above as an example. Due to the difference in texture in the wood, the image has a lighter side and a darker side. The settings are the same for the laser throughout the image.
It’s not all negative though. The difference in color emphasizes the natural color of the wood and gives it a refined look. You can take a look at our wooden products to see how the custom-engraved words or images look here. This may happen to any piece as we can not control how the wood will react. Thank you for your understanding and happy shopping!
